Full-bodied and delicious, the elegantly structured palate doles out crushed raspberry, licorice, orange zest and mint while bright acidity lends youthful, nervous tension. The 2018 Barolo Villero comes across as light and lacking in body, with modest depth and complexity for this cru. The 2018 is nicely balanced, with pretty aromatics, but the flavors and textures just aren't fully developed. On the plus side, the typically potent young Villero tannin are also dialed down. It's a wine that plays at volume of 3 rather than 8 or 9. Ultimately, the 2018 feels hollow.
